Early in World War II two English school boys whose headmaster had been killed by a stray German bomb, came by ocean liner to wait out the war as guests of the author’s family in Virginia. Their education was continued at a boarding school in Canada. An Atlantic crossing marred by the mysterious disappearance of a bullying schoolmate, and the aftermath in a Canadian academy are imagined in this story. Film rights are held by a British producer.
